Hello all. I am happy to introduce two new items to The Bike Shelf family. As I mentioned before, The Walnut version of The Bike Shelf is a permanent fixture but I will be revolving in and out other finishes as time goes by. It is now time to say goodbye to Ash (Now On Sale for $249), and welcome in Hickory. Like Ash, Hickory is a lighter wood than Walnut but it tends to have more contrast and variation, as well as a reddish heartwood. It is also extremely strong. I think it’s a great addition to the family, I hope you agree.

In addition, I have now added a smaller size Bike Shelf to accomodate those with smaller frames, or thicker/non-cylindrical top tubes. In an attempt to curtail some of the custom building of Bike Shelves for people whose bikes didn’t work with the standard size, I took many of the typical variations I had been making and brought them together in this new version. In addition to the width of the shelf being 2.75″ less, I also opened up the slot from 1.75″ to 2″ to accomodate those larger tubes. This will make it cheaper for those who were forced to go the custom route before.

I hope you like the new finish and sizes. More to come in the future…

Hello all. I have been working hard over the last couple of months to make some additions to The Bike Shelf offerings. In the coming days, I will be making available a new finish and size for immediate shipping. I will always offer the Walnut version but every so often will be cycling out the other for a new lumber type. Next up is Hickory.

In order to make some room for more inventory, I am putting the remaining stock of the Ash Bike Shelf on sale for $249, $50 off the regular price. I only have a few left so if you would like one, order now.

The people over at The Bold Italic were nice enough to feature me today in their “Found Locals” section. If you haven’t been there before, The Bold Italic is the place for unique stories and events in San Francisco. It’s a great site for everyone, but especially for those of us in SF. Check it out if you have a chance. There are a ton of great stories and bios of people way more interesting than myself.

Hello all. I don’t usually use this blog as a space to push others products but I’m a big supporter of fellow SF small businesses so I thought I’d pass along this news from my friends over at Taylor Stitch. In case you haven’t heard of them before, Taylor Stitch is a small and independent shirt maker based out of San Francisco who is making really well designed and well fitting clothes here in SF.

Recently they have branched out and just launched their new line of Denim. I was lucky enough to get a pair of these and I have to say they are pretty great. They fit really well, are made from really nice denim and avoid the all too rampant, terrible finishes that are hard to avoid these days in most jeans. They are just clean, well fitting and good looking.

Anyway… congrats to TS for their denim launch and I look forward to hopefully working with these guys on some projects in the coming year. Be on the lookout.

To celebrate the ever so important American tradition of Black Friday, I decided to team up with the guys at Huckberry to have a limited 7-day sale of some Knife & Saw products. If you don’t know what Huckberry is, you should check it out. It is a members-only guide to apparel, gear and travel for the active life that is also based out of San Francisco.

I am happy to announce that after a year of what was supposed to be a temporary site, I have finally had some time to work on the official Knife & Saw website and it launched this weekend and is ready for public viewing.

With the new site, it should be much easier for you to see my work, learn more about Knife & Saw and find out how to purchase Knife & Saw products. I hope you find this to be the case. I found out this weekend that the Bike Shelf won 2 awards at the Dwell on Design Conference Modern World Awards. It won in the “Play” category and it also took home the overall People’s Choice Award. You can see the Bike Shelf accepting its award above.

I just wanted to thank Dwell first of all for putting me in the magazine and then nominating me for this award. It is very flattering to even be considered along side these great designers and their products, let alone to be chosen for the award. Even more flattering is to be chosen by all of you for the People’s Choice award. Thank you so much to all of you who voted for me and spread the word, as well as for your overall support. It means a lot. I hope I can continue to make work that you enjoy and follow.

Thanks again to you and congrats to all of the other designers who were nominated as well, there are some great designs out there well worthy of the awards.
